COPS continue to gather forensic evidence in woods where a 14-year-old was sexually assaulted.

The teenager was attacked at around 9.45pm on Saturday in a wooded area behind the sports centre on Brediland Road in Linwood.

The girl had been with a group of her friends in a wooded area behind the sports centre.

After leaving them, the girl made her way back into the woods and whilst she was there, she was approached from behind by a man who subjected her to a sexual assault.

The man responsible is described as in his early 20s with dark stubble. He was wearing a dark coloured hooded top and trousers.

Detective Inspector Ian Ross is re-appealing for any information. He said: “This young woman is understandably traumatised by this attack and it is imperative that the man responsible is identified as soon as possible.

“A team of officers are working on this investigation and have been carrying out enquiries in the local area and gathering and viewing a large amount of CCTV footage to find out more information on this crime and the identity of the suspect.

“The area where the sexual assault took place remains cordoned off and forensic examinations are continuing.

“I would again appeal for any witnesses who may have been in the area around the time of the incident who may have seen anything suspicious, or who may have seen a young man fitting this description to come forward. Any information that may assist in identifying this man can be passed to officers based at Paisley through 101 quoting reference number 4789 of Saturday 21 April 2018. Alternatively CRIMESTOPPERS can be contacted on 0800 555 111, where anonymity can be maintained.”
