A SUPPORT service which helps cancer patients cope with the trauma of hair loss will be featured in a new documentary focusing on Glasgow’s world-famous Beatson centre.

The BBC series is set to give viewers a glimpse into the work of Beatson Cancer Charity’s Hair and Wig Service, as it follows the journey of cancer patients at one of Europe’s biggest cancer treatment centres.

The three-part series called The Cancer Hospital begins tonight and looks at the treatment of Scotland’s three most common cancers – breast, lung and prostate.

Marj Walters and Ian Weir work as part of a team of hair and wig consultants who are experienced in dealing with the very sensitive nature of hair loss.

Marj said: “Hair loss is probably the most visual thing that says cancer to the rest of the world.

“A lot of patients understandably find it very difficult to come to terms with the fact that they might lose their hair. Every patient is different, but I’m here to offer them advice and options and help with whatever they want to do.

“Nowadays cancer treatment isn’t just about the medical side of things.”

Episode one of The Cancer Hospital will be screened tonight on BBC One at 9pm
