GERMAN cops have confirmed that there was no foul play in the death of tragic Liam Colgan who disappeared during his brother's stag do.

Their ruling comes after a Post Mortem examination was carried out on the 29-year-old whose body was discovered earlier this week.

The Inverness postman was pulled from a Hamburg river 72 days after he vanished on brother Eamonn’s stag do on February 10.

His remains were taken to the German city’s Institute for Forensic Medicine where experts ruled there was no evidence that he was victim of crime.

A spokesman for Hamburg Police said: “The autopsy gave no indication of a foreign influence.

“The corpse could be clearly identified as Liam Colgan.”

Liam's family learned of the body recovery on Monday when investigators contacted them. A passer-by raised the alarm at the River Elbe at around 6.40am.

His driving licence was found in a pocket and the clothes matched those he was wearing when he was last seen alive on February 10.

We previously reported on his family thanking the public for their support.

A post on Facebook read: "On behalf of all of Liam's family we would like to thank everyone from the bottom of our hearts for the incredible support we have received since Liam disappeared on February 10th 2018. We will never forget this.

"Whilst we still await confirmation regarding the circumstances surrounding Liam's death there would be appear to be no suspicious circumstances and this has been a tragic accident.

"As this is an extremely difficult situation for us all to accept, we would ask that people refrain from unnecessary speculation as to the circumstances surrounding his death.

"Liam was a much loved son, brother, brother in law, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend to so many.

"He was a hugely talented yet humble musician. He had a very natural sense of humour that made him a joy to be around.

"He cared for his nieces immensely and would visit them at every opportunity, they miss him greatly.

"Liam had a laid back, selfless personality that made him impossible not to get on with.

"As a family we have had huge support from everyone who was lucky enough to have known Liam.

"We also find it a testament to the amazing person Liam was that people who did not know him before his disappearance also found it in their hearts to offer support and help in our search for him.

"So many people have been able to recognise that he is someone who was a genuinely great person who will sorely be missed.

"We love you Liam."
