Residents in the city's East End are being urged to be vigilant after a number of cars were stolen.

A number of high value thefts of vehicles in the Baillieston area have been reported to police.

Attempts have also been made to take cars in Dalmarnock.

Extra patrols have been put in the area to catch the opportunistic thieves have been accessing car keys by 'fishing' them through letter boxes.

Locals are now being urged not to keep their keys close to the front door.

Incidents have been taking place regularly, according to police, with one being reported on Monday night.

Police launched a search for a suspect seen trying car doors in Croftcroighn Close in Garthamlock last week.

The man made entry into an unlocked car, stealing a satnav, cash and sunglasses.

Thieves have also taken a number of items from cars, including an iPhone, number plates and satnav, have been placed around the east end including Mossbank Drive, Rhindmuir Avenue, the Gallowgate and Carrick Drive area.

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland, said: "We've had a further report of vehicles stolen overnight Monday into Tuesday, with keys being "fished" from letterboxes.

"Please ensure your keys are stored away safely.

"Enquiries are ongoing to trace those responsible, and extra patrols will be in the area."
