STEVEN Gerrard is capable of bringing big players to Rangers in the summer if he takes over as manager at Ibrox.

That is the opinion of former Arsenal and England midfielder Ray Parlour, following reports that the Liverpool legend has held talks with the Gers hierarchy about the position.

Gerrard is currently in charge of the Liverpool Under-18 side and has no senior managerial experience, but Parlour believes recruiting such a respected figure would boost the Ladbrokes Premiership side’s potential in the transfer market.

“To be fair, with what’s gone on at Rangers this season, with players getting suspended, it can’t get any worse,” he told TalkSport.

“There’s one thing about Steven Gerrard – he can attract big players.

“If he did do well at Rangers, say he did go to Rangers and suddenly they close the gap on Celtic, his stock goes up massively as a manager.

“He might look at that. But again if it goes the other way or stays the same… again I really don’t know.

“One day he’ll definitely be the Liverpool manager, I’m sure of that.

“Whether he just wants to stay in and around the club at the moment with the academy is Steven Gerrard’s decision to make.”

He continued: “It’s a shock because he’s really enjoying his football at the moment.

“He’s in the academy, he’s learning his trade, which a lot of guys do. All these guys will one day be top managers.

“But also we know how big Rangers are as a club and they will want to try and attract a big name.

“You can’t get a bigger name than Steven Gerrard.”
