CHARITABLE causes across the city will receive a boost this weekend, thanks to Glasgow Taxis’ annual 50p Sunday.

The taxi firm has pledged 50p from every fare to go towards the STV Children’s Appeal, helping young Scots who need it most.

Last year, the fundraising campaign raised more than £3,000 for the charity.

It’s day of giving takes place on the same day as the city’s Royal Bank of Scotland Kiltwalk, when thousands of Glaswegians will walk either six, 15 or 23 miles to raise funds for good causes.

The firm will also offer a £1,000 donation to STV2’s Laura Boyd’s charity campaign.

Chairman Stephen Flynn said: “The STV Children’s Appeal is a truly deserving cause which does fantastic work to support young people.

“We are committed to supporting major events across the city and it doesn’t get any better than the Kiltwalk. Walkers using our service before or after the charity walk will know that a chunk of their fare will go to charity, and those unable to take part will do their bit just by taking their usual taxi journey.

“We’re delighted to continue to support the STV Children’s Appeal and do what we can to help those who need it most. We’ll be cheering on Laura, and everyone who is taking part on Sunday.” Natalie Wright, of the STV Children’s Appeal, added: “We are very grateful to Glasgow Taxis Ltd. for raising funds once again for STV Children’s Appeal as part of the 50p Sunday campaign, and for the generous donation to Laura’s fundraising efforts.

“Every donation brings us one step closer to making a real difference to the lives of children and young people affected by poverty in Scotland. Our sincere thanks to Glasgow Taxis Ltd staff, drivers and customers for their continued support in 2018!”
