Actor Sam Heughan, famed for his role in the hit series Outlander has shared a picture of himself in his younger years and it's far from the hunk we are used to seeing on our screens.

The 37-year-old shared the picture on his Instagram page to celebrate Old Head Shot Day, commenting that it was the earliest acting photo that he could find.

A host of celebrities have joined him and dug out their first head shots, joking about their earnest expressions and misjudged outfits.

Glasgow Times:

Featuring a sulky pose and short curly locks, the black and white image is the first ever head shot the Scots star had taken.

Fans were quick to comment on how much the hunk has changed over the years with many of his Heuligans trying to guess how old he is in the snap.

Follower @andrea.connell said: "Baby face! 👶🏼 I love how men get better looking as they age. It's so fair 😑"

Another @cammie_bluesky commented: "You are aging like a fine wine Sam. Only getting better with age. 😊 What are you here? 19?"

While @mariebrigitte added: "How old were you here with bone structure like that?!"

Before taking on the role of Jamie Fraser in Outlander, Sam had a brief stint in River City and Doctors as well as starring in several theatre productions.

In conjunction with Testicular Cancer Awareness Month, Sam will be running two marathons for charity Cahonas Scotland to raise awareness about the signs and symptoms of male cancers.

This weekend he will take on the first part of his challenge at the Stirling Marathon.
