Television host and die-hard Hearts fan Ewen Cameron has hit back at trolls on Twitter who accused him of being a closet Rangers fan.

The presenter headed to Ibrox yesterday for the unveiling of Steven Gerrard as the new Gers manager and fans claimed that he seemed suspiciously excited about the Liverpool legend's arrival.

The accusations which included comments about 'his disguise slipping' were also prompted by a video of the STV broadcaster enjoying the celebrations with Light Blues fans.

Defending his loyalty to the Jambos, Ewen felt obliged to put trolls in their place with a twitter post captioned: “Steven Gerrard: The day after the day before. It has been a crazy last 24 hours but I have to get something off my chest.”

The post contained two pictures with a lengthy explanation for his positive reaction to Gerrard's appointment, claiming he feels the arrival of the legend will be good for Scottish football.

He wrote: "“It’s sad I’m doing this but I feel I must. I got stick yesterday for being positive about Steven Gerrard’s appointment at Rangers and it has p**** me off.

"“I’m a Hearts man. I grew up in Edinburgh. I went to Tynecastle High School. I’ve been a season ticket holder, on and off, over the years but due to work commitments I can’t go as often as I would like. I now go to the odd game when I can.

“What p***** me off is the narrow-minded, blinkered, few who spout the same boring p*** about me. I’m a football fan who looks at the bigger picture and I love the banter with rival fans.”

Explaining that Gerrard's arrival will add an extra excitement to the competition between Scottish teams he added: “I was at Ibrox to witness the unveiling of one of the world’s best midfielders of his generation. Steven Gerrard has chosen to manage in Scotland. To manage Rangers.

“I don’t give a monkeys who he manages as I’m just delighted to see him in our country. It’s a great boost for Scottish football because we’re all going to benefit from this appointment and for that I applaud Rangers.”

His response to the trolls has been met with many comments of support but some Hibs fans remain unconvinced.

Ewen Fleming said: "I’m a Hearts fan, too. And speaking as a Hearts fan... you’re absolutely right. I love football, always will. But the narrow mindedness of supporters - and dare I say it, Scottish supporters in particular - isn’t just sad, it’s really boring."

While twitter follower @hibsboy69 said: “Everyone look at me. I release statements so I must me important” This from the character who said he’d quit Twitter if McInness wasn’t the next Rangers manager ! Oh Ewan."
