Detectives are appealing for information after a man was hit on the head with a glass in the Saltmarket.

Around 10pm on Monday, a 38-year-old man was walking along Greenhead Street, across from Glasgow Green, with family when he came across a large group of men and women.

Words were exchanged with one of the men and the victim was then hit on the head with a glass.

The group then ran towards Glasgow Green and dispersed.

The victim was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary for treatment to a serious head injury and has since been released.

Detective Constable Sean McLoughlin from Shettleston CID said: “The Glasgow Green area was still relatively busy around the time of the incident, with people walking their dogs or heading home from a day out.

“I would appeal to anyone who was in the area and either witnessed the attack, or saw a group of men and woman running off, to please get in touch.

“I would also ask any motorists with dashcams who were near to Glasgow Green around 10pm on Monday night to come forward in case you have captured any footage regarding the incident or suspects.
