Police are hunting a group men who assaulted a stranger outside a Maryhill supermarket.

A 33-year-old man was standing near the bus stop outside the Tesco Extra Store on Maryhill Road on Tuesday morning around 2.45am.

He was approached by three men and seriously assaulted.

His friend came to his aid and the suspects made off along Maryhill Road before turning right onto Shakespeare Street.

There is limited detail on the suspects other than that they were white and in their early 20s.

Witnesses flagged down a passing police car and an ambulance was called. The injured man was taken to the Glasgow Royal Infirmary where he received treatment for a head injury.

Officers are checking CCTV footage from around the area for any additional detail on the suspects.

Detective Constable Andrew Barbour said: “The motive for this attack is unknown, this man has been subjected to an unprovoked attack.

"I am appealing to anyone who was in the area of Maryhill Road around the time of the incident who may have seen something connected to the crime.

"Perhaps you saw the three young men running off after the attack, or you may have seen them hanging around outside the store prior to the incident taking place.

"Any small piece of information could help our enquiries, please do pass your information on.
