A transit van caught fire on the M8 causing smoke to billow across the motorway next to Glasgow Fort shopping centre.

Fire crews were called to the scene at around 11.30am to try and tackle the blaze on the busy eastbound carriageway.

The van was moved on to the hard shoulder but drivers were still warned to be careful when passing the incident.

A spokespoerson for Fire and Rescue Scotland said: "Fire crews were called to the scene at 11.28 am after reports that a transit van was on fire on the M8.

"Two jets were used to put out the flames and no one was injured."
