GLASGOW residents are facing a price hike if they are looking to visit city museums.

Several locals were left shocked after noticing their usual parking prices will be bumped up by 540 per cent in the coming weeks.

Those parking at Glasgow Life museums including Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, the Riverside Museum and Kelvin Hall will no longer be able to take advantage of the £1 for four hours parking charge.

Glasgow City Council agreed to up the cost as part of this year’s budget to deter commuters from taking up spaces designated for visitors.

The move is designed to encourage a greater turnover and help visitors.
From June, it will cost £6.40 to park for four hours.

A spokesman for Glasgow City Council, said: “The charges for these car parks were incredibly low, which meant they were often swamped by commuter parkers – blocking visitors to our venues, museums and galleries.

“The new tariff reflects existing charges at other surface car parks, which are based on an hourly rate.

“It should encourage a greater turnover of cars, ensuring visitors who need to park can.”
