A GLASGOW MSP has encouraged SNP politicians to protest when President Trump visits Scotland.
Patrick Harvie Green MSP for Glasgow said that the government must ensure that people are able to protest and not be restricted by police.
He said many people will want to let the US President know their feelings if he visits.

He asked the Community Safety Minister Annabelle Ewing to ensure protest would be possible.
Mr Harvie, said added: “Whether Trump’s visit to the UK includes a stop in Scotland or not, a great many people in Scotland will want to ensure that the world sees that we stand alongside our friends in America who are marginalised and threatened by the Trump regime and will wish to express visibly our revulsion at the racism, misogyny, climate change denial and litany of lies for which President Trump is responsible.”
Ms Ewing said that the UK Government has not told of any planned visit to Scotland
She added: “There is no law in Scotland that stops people from protesting peacefully. Police Scotland has confirmed that arrangements are in place to police any visit in a way that maintains the public’s right to protest peacefully while enforcing existing laws as necessary.”
The Leader of the Greens then went further and asked the SNP to join the protests.

He said: “Will she also ensure that her party colleagues support and participate in that demonstration? The greatest and widest opposition to the Trump regime must be seen and expressed by all the people of Scotland right across the political spectrum.
The minister replied:”It is well documented that the Scottish Government has disagreed with many of the actions that have been taken by President Trump’s Administration. The list is perhaps a bit too long to mention at this point. The member will be well aware of that.”
