A MAN has been left devastated after his mum died before they could repair their relationship following an argument.

Robert Downie, 48, pushed his dad and branded him an "old b******" during an outburst at his parents' home. Whilst acting in an agitated manner, the accused continually shouted and swore – claiming the house was bugged and gangsters were out to get him.

His parents called the police due to his behaviour and when they arrived he lashed out at them.

At Glasgow Sheriff Court, Downie pleaded guilty to acting in an aggressive manner at an address in Grierson Street on April 18 this year. He admitted shouting, swearing, pushing his father onto a couch, attempting to headbutt a police constable and resisting arrest by repeatedly kicking his legs out.

In defence it was explained that the accused was ousted from the family home and when contacted whether he was welcome back, his mum said: "Certainly not."

Sadly, his mother passed away last week before the pair could make amends and Downie's last family memory is now the incident. His lawyer stated: "This upsets him greatly."

It was claimed that the accused, who is now living in homeless accommodation, had been on methadone for some time but had taken street valium to self-medicate.

His lawyer admitted: "That has been a disastrous for him."

Sheriff Aisha Anwar tagged the accused for two months, in which Downie will have to remain at home between the hours of 7pm and 7am. He was also sentenced to a Community Payback Order with supervision for a year.
