TEMPERATURES are set to sizzle this week.

According to the Met Office, the heat could reach highs of 23C by Thursday

Today, the barometer is set to hit 18C. On Tuesday it will drop slightly to 17C before climbing to 19C on Wednesday, 20 degrees on Thursday and then holding at 19C for the rest of the week.

However, Craig Snell from the Met Office believes it could get hotter.

He told the Evening Times: "After a fairly cloudy day on Sunday, Monday may start off a bit grey but will get brighter in the afternoon.

"By the time people are heading home from work, it should be increasing sunny.

"Then onwards, the rest of the week is a positive story.

"It might start a bit grey on Tuesday, but after will be largely sunny.

"By Wednesday, Thursday and Friday it will be generally sunny. The sunshine will be strong and the UV levels will be high by the end of the week.

"It could reach 22-23C on Thursday/Friday.

"Although it's still this early stage, it's looking promising."
