A MAN branded a policewoman a "wee w****" before banging his head against a cell van wall.

It was around 10.30pm on September 9 last year when police were asked to attend at a Glasgow flat. On arrival they pushed the door open and found Christopher Docherty, 45, asleep on the living room couch.

Docherty became aggressive when he was told he was being detained for another matter and began to struggle with the officers when handcuffed and taken to the police van.

Whilst in the rear of the vehicle, the accused verbally abused the copper and continually banged his head against the wall. When transported to the station, he tensed his arms and pushed against the police.

At Glasgow Sheriff Court, Docherty pleaded guilty to acting in an aggressive manner at his home address and en route to London Road police station.

He admitted shouting, swearing – aggravated by prejudice relating to sexual orientation, repeatedly banging his head on the inside of a cell van and struggling with officers.

In defence, Docherty's addiction issues were highlighted. It was noted that he previously misused alcohol and valium, but was now engaging with support services and had taken himself away from a negative peer social circle.

Sheriff Mary McCrory sentenced Docherty, of Shettleston Road, to a Community Payback Order with 100 hours of unpaid work to be completed within three months.
