OVERNIGHT resurfacing works will take place on the M8 from this weekend.

Scotland TranServ, as part of Transport Scotland’s strategic trunk road management programme, will resurface 0.6 kilometres of the M8 Eastbound between Anderston Cross and Bath Street.

In order to carry out the works as quickly and safely as possible, with minimum disruption to more than 100,000 commuters and freight drivers using the motorway every day, works will be carried out over a series of overnight closures.

Evan Ferguson, Scotland TranServ’s planned maintenance manager said: “We have experienced one of the harshest winters in years, with a prolonged series of freeze-thaw cycles, which have taken their toll on the trunk road network. Managing the balance between maintaining the busiest trunk road in Scotland and minimising disruption to thousands of drivers is challenging.

“We have been working closely with Transport Scotland, a number of authorities and key stakeholders to schedule these works to reduce the impact on businesses and local drivers. Working overnight, ahead of the peak summer season, will allow us to carry out these works as efficiently as we can.”

To complete the works on this stretch of carriageway it will be necessary to close the Eastbound motorway and associated on-slip overnight from Friday, May 25 to Friday, June 1.

It is proposed that traffic management will be installed over the following times:

-Friday 25 to Sunday, May 27, weekend overnight closures between 8pm and 8am.

-Monday, May 28 to Friday, June 1, weekday overnight closures between 8pm and 6am.

Local diversions will be in place along neighbouring streets.

The volume of traffic will be monitored, and traffic management only installed once the flow of vehicles is sufficiently low. Local diversions will be clearly signposted.
