FAMOUS West End feline Monty the cat who was abducted on Saturday has been returned to his owner.

Monty, a favourite of Kevin Bridges and Greg Hemphill, was lifted from his home in Hyndland by a mystery woman with a box at around 10.30pm on Saturday.

His distressed owner, Abi Harding, had appealed to the public to look out for him after his ‘portly catnapper’ told neighbours she was taking him to the vet.

Monty has now been returned safely to Abi by the woman who has been forgiven for taking him away.

Abi said: “Monty came home last night after a lady rang me to tell me she had him.

"She had been eating in Nicks restaurant when she saw the posters up about his disappearance. She said she had decided to take him on Saturday night to look after him after she thought he was abandoned.

“She claimed he had been vomiting and had diarrhoea but she didn’t take him to the vet.

“When she saw the posters up she contacted me about 8.30pm. I told her it had been a distressing time for us all.

"I think she might have been a bit embarrassed and I said 'thank you' to her for bringing him home.”

Monty is now being watched carefully, but Abi added: ”The good thing that has come out of this is that his former owners got back in touch to say 'hello' and told us he’s actually 16 not 13 years old and that he always loved to roam.”
