STAFF at a popular Rangers pub next to Ibrox Stadium have claimed vandalism on its walls is a result of Steven Gerrard’s signing.

The Louden Tavern, on Copland Road, shared images of the scrawling on the outside wall reading ‘RANGERS SCUM’ in red spray paint on social media on Monday.

A member of staff told the Evening Times: “A lot of this has kicked off since Steven Gerrard signed up as Rangers’ manager. A lot of people have panicked, but it won’t put us off. We’re just mildly annoyed. At the end of the day, people have worse problems.”

Raising the alarm on its Facebook, staff told their followers: “Well, to celebrate their success at the weekend some of the Celtic support decided to damage private property and obsess about Rangers. As predictable as it is pathetic.”

The venue - less than half a mile from Ibrox Stadium - also shared the image on Twitter, writing: “On a weekend where they achieve a treble, they are still obsessed with us. They really need to get a life!”

A war of worlds quickly broke out between both Rangers and Celtic fans, with many questioning how the pub came to the conclusion it was Hoops supporters behind the act of vandalism.

One Facebook user then posted an image of another part of the wall which showed the words ‘CELTIC CFC’ written in green.

The pub was vandalised again on Tuesday morning when the word ‘RANGERS’ had been scored out in black with ‘SEVCO’ written over it instead.

Staff said the assailant was caught on CCTV making the graffiti at around 1.30am on Monday morning and that they would be contacting the police.

“It was just one young guy, a teen ned, doing it to show off to his pals. It’s quite sad. I don’t understand. What’s wrong with people?,” added the employee, who wished to remain anonymous.

“The council said it’s not sectarianism, but of course it is. As soon as you use the word ‘scum’, it’s a hate crime,” they added.

Staff also called on the Scottish Government to step in and change attitudes.

The staff member continued: “If the Scottish Government put more money into education, we wouldn’t have incidents like this. Rangers and Celtic are a big pull for people to come to Glasgow. When signs and slogans like this appear across the city - when morons deface Glasgow - it’s bad for tourism.”

The pub said the issue had been reported to the council “who will fix it for us.”

Police Scotland was also contacted for more information.

Celtic’s 2-0 triumph over Motherwell at Hampden marked a sixth trophy in two seasons under Brendan Rodgers, with the Parkhead club scooping up every domestic trophy available in that time.

The achievement was an unprecedented one in Scottish football, and left-back Kieran Tierney - who has been an integral part of the run under Rodgers - admitted it may never be done again.
