A MUM-OF-FIVE from Parkhead went on a sticky-fingered Christmas shopping spree.

Diane Skiverton, 50, tried to pinch £600 worth of sports clothing last winter, but was snared as she tried to leave the city centre shop.

It was around 11.15am when the accused came to the attention of staff within a JD Sports store. Although it was busy, the workers kept an eye on Skiverton as she was a known thief.

Whilst pretending to browse, the accused was spotted stuffing four jackets and a t-shirt into a bag. She then attempted to leave the shop without paying for the goods.

There was a full recovery made of the stolen items.

At Glasgow Sheriff Court, Skiverton pleaded guilty to stealing a quantity of clothing from JD Sports in the city's Argyle Street on December 19, 2017.

Defending, Mr Fitzpatrick accepted that his client had a criminal record and had come to the attention of the police on two more occasions since her arrest for this crime – which included facing a charge at Paisley Sheriff Court for shoplifting.

It was explained that the mum-of-five had serious addiction problems and at the time of this offence she was abusing non-prescription drugs alongside prescribed medication.

Sheriff Barry Divers fined the accused, of Westmuir Street, £200.
