CELTIC star Nir Bitton has hit out at internet trolls who are abusing him and his family over his nationality.

The footballer, who joined the Hoops in 2013, posted a message on social media criticising the web trolls who are targeting him.

Glasgow Times:

In a message posted on Instagram to his 73,000 followers, he said: "I'm just tired of replying to idiots who insult me because I'm Israeli. So I'm not going to reply anymore.

"It's just a shame of the people who insult me for such a thing like that, as a father if you think I support the death of children or any human being then you are nothing but idiots.

"I'm all up for banter but not when guys texting my wife's Instagram.

"I (have been) getting abuse for a while so I just felt that I had to say that.

"Don't mix politics and football, you are better than that. Love you all."

Both the player and his wife Bar have since made her social media accounts private.

Celtic's supporter group The Green Brigade have regularly shown their support for Palestine at games including at the weekend's Scottish Cup final against Motherwell

The club was fined £8,615 in 2016 over fans’ support of Palestine when they faced Israel’s Hapoel Beer Sheva.

Hoops supporters went onto raise more than £170,000 for Palestinian charities in response to the charges.

The footballer previously shut down a troll who slammed him for congratulating Israel for winning the Eurovision Song Contest.
