TWO late night takeaways have overcome regulatory challenges from Glasgow City Council and are able to open into the early hours.

Wingerz appeared before the Licensing and Regulatory Committee yesterday when the shop was identified to have a falty extractor fan.

Lawyer Michael McCulloch told how the business owner had replaced the fan within 24 hours and was then approved to return to business.

He said: “The premises opened then found the extraction system wasn’t efficient, then a notice [from the council] was issued.

“Action was taken the next day and a new one was fitted. Environmental officers inspected it.

“The seriousness of the issue was recognised and great steps were taken to fix it.”

Wingerz, on Sauchiehall Street, is Glasgow’s only chicken wings takeaway, the committee heard, and has been successful since opening last year.

Down in Oswald Street, Shrinivash Kumar, with seven years in the business, was approved for a three-year licence to run a late night fast food joint, open until 5am.

He is taking over Grill Guru, so it was effectively a transfer of the licence.

There were issues that have now been resolved regarding flooring and hygiene that the committee wanted to know about.

Frank Collins, Mr Kumar’s lawyer, said: “Some £20,000 has been spent on the refurbication – new tiles had to be ordered because the floor was subsiding. Mr Kumar pointe this out to enironmental officers when they came in. It had been temporarily repaired, an now the matter has been resolved.”
