A WOMAN who twice assaulted a 13-year-old girl has been put under the supervision of social workers for 12 months.
Margaret Jennings, 30, of Duntocher, previously admitted assaulting her victim on two separate occasions – on October 12 last year at a house in Glasgow, and then on January 22 this year at a house in Clydebank.
Dumbarton Sheriff Court heard last week how in the first incident the woman had punched the girl in the stomach and then slapped her on the face with the back of her hand.
This was observed by a witness who texted her mother, who called the police, explained fiscal depute Ian Meacock.
In the second assault, there was an argument that led to Jennings grabbing the girl by the hair and pulling her back down a flight of stairs towards the front door. She was also punching the victim while pulling her and the girl tried to cover her face from the blows.
A witness was shouting at Jennings to stop and eventually did. But when the victim returned for her mobile phone, Jennings grabbed her by the collar and pulled her against the wall. Police were called again.
On April 4, Jennings shouted and swore through a witness’s letter box and police were contacted.
Jennings’ defence solicitor said there was “very considerable upset and regret that matters come to that point at all”.
He said she was frequently in a state of high anxiety but does have some hopes for the future.
Sheriff John Hamilton said: “It’s important you understand this is the wake-up call you need to get this sorted.”
He ordered her to be under supervision for 12 months.
