A DRUMCHAPEL charity’s bid for a hospital minibus has hit a speed bump – just weeks after its permit was approved.

The General Data Protection Regulation, which came into force yesterday, has meant G15 Buses, the charity behind the plan, is “almost back to the beginning” in building its client base.

Initially, the charity – formerly the Drumchapel Initiative for Transport – contacted residents throughout the area to determine if the demand for the service, which would provide a direct link from Drumchapel to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, Govan, was there.

However, organiser Will Thomson says before the group can progress with planning the first run of the service they must first contact each person who had signed up as a user again to ensure they are still happy to be a part of the project due to the new legislation.

Mr Thomson told the Evening Times: “We’ve got all these people we write to and we have their details to contact them about our progress and minibus routes, etc. Now we have to contact them again to determine if they’re happy for us to keep their details, if they permit to be contacted and how they permit to being contacted.

“We’ve got to get permission from everyone all over again. Everything we’ve got written down goes up in a puff of smoke.

“If we had been further along the line, even a few weeks down the line, it would have been fine.”

The charity has already contacted those who initially signed up for the project, but is prepared to “go back to the beginning” by canvassing the area for potential service users as it did previously.

But Mr Thomson warns if the charity is unable to recruit users the idea could be scrapped.

Those in Drumchapel who wish to use the service can alert him to their interest via the G15 Buses Facebook page.
