A man is in a stable condition in hospital after surviving a murder attempt when a car was driven at him in Nitshill.

The 31-year-old avoided the car but was then attacked by two men on Nitshill Road, on Saturday afternoon.

The incident, which is now being treated as attempted murder, happened when the man was with two friends outside of a bookies on Nitshill Road near to Peat Road, around 5.05pm on Saturday.

A black Peugeot car drove at him before colliding with the wall of the betting shop.

The victim managed to get out the way of the car but the two male occupants proceeded to exit the vehicle and attack the man with weapons which are not thought to have been bladed.

They then got back into the car and drove off towards Seamill Street and then into Maybole Street where the car was subsequently found partially burnt out.

The injured man was taken by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where medical staff describe his condition as stable.

The suspects are only described as both white, one wearing a grey t-shirt and the other a black balaclava and black clothing.

Locals reported seeing sniffer dogs and a police helicopter in the area following the incident.

Detective Sergeant Dougie Stevenson, Govan CID, said: “Whilst we believe the man involved was the intended target, for this to happen in the middle of the day and in a very busy spot, was very brazen of the suspects not to mention dangerous.

“We have managed to speak to those involved and officers are currently checking CCTV, however, we are still keen to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time and who saw the incident take place.

"The bookies is right next to Nitshill Road so there would certainly have been a lot of traffic in the area and we would ask for any dashcam footage that may have captured the attack.
