WITH a whole host of blockbusters out this summer, here are the Evening Times’ top picks to prepare for.

OCEAN’S 8

Glasgow Times:

Inspired by her brother Danny Ocean (George Clooney), estranged sister Debbie Ocean (Sandra Bullock) attempts to pull off the heist of the century at New York City’s star-studded annual Met Gala.

Her first step is to assemble the perfect crew: Amita (Mindy Kaling), Tammy (Sarah Paulson), Lou (Cate Blanchett), Constance (Awkwafina), Nine Ball (Rihanna) and Rose (Helena Bonham Carter).

The comedy, directed by Gary Ross, is a spin-off from Steven Soderbergh’s Ocean’s trilogy.

THE MEG

Glasgow Times:

After the likes of Jaws, Deep Blue Sea, Shark Night and The Shallows, it is still not safe to go in the water.

Around 200 miles off the Chinese coast, a 75ft-long prehistoric shark called megalodon, thought to be long dead, rises from the depths of the ocean and attacks a research submersible, leaving its crew stranded. Diver Jonas Taylor (Jason Statham) is called into action to help rescue the crew and stop the creature before it attacks the mainland.

Co-starring Li Bingbing, Rainn Wilson, Ruby Rose and Cliff Curtis, the film is based on the 1997 science-fiction book Meg: A Novel of Deep Terror by Steve Alten.

JURASSIC WORLD: FALLEN KINGDOM

Glasgow Times:

After the demise of the Jurassic World theme park on Isla Nublar off Central America’s pacific coast, the dinosaurs roam freely on the island for three years until an impending volcanic eruption threatens their existence.

Former park manager Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard) creates a dinosaur rescue organisation and teams up with Benjamin Lockwood (James Cromwell), the former partner of John Hammond (Richard Attenborough), to bring the creatures to a sanctuary in America.

Claire’s boyfriend Owen Grady (Chris Pratt), a former dinosaur trainer at the park, joins the mission to locate Blue, the last of the velociraptors that he trained. However a greater scheme emerges when the creatures are auctioned away, and disaster strikes when a dangerous hybrid dinosaur, the indoraptor, escapes and begins terrorising people.

Fallen Kingdom is the second instalment of the planned Jurassic World trilogy and the fifth film in the Jurassic Park series.

ANT-MAN AND THE WASP

Glasgow Times:

Set between the events of Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War, Scott Lang (Paul Rudd), now under house arrest after the events of Civil War, tries to balance his home life as a father with his responsibilities as Ant-Man.

When Hope van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly) and Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) present him with a new mission to bring to light secrets from their past, Lang teams up with van Dyne as the new Wasp.

Ant-Man and the Wasp is the sequel to 2015’s Ant-Man and the 12th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

CRAZY RICH ASIANS

Glasgow Times:

Crazy Rich Asians revolves around Chinese-American economics professor Rachel Chu (Constance Wu), who accompanies her boyfriend to Singapore for his best friend’s wedding, only to become thrust into the lives of Asia’s rich and famous. There she discovers that her boyfriend, Nick (Henry Golding), comes from a very wealthy family with a dark past, and that every woman wants him.
