FORMER Rangers midfielder and Ross County manager Neale Cooper is reportedly fighting for life after being found injured.
Police Scotland confirmed officers were called to a report of a man who had collapsed within a communal stairwell in the Ferguson Court area of Bucksburn at around 1.45am on Sunday.
The 54-year-old Gothenburg Great was rushed by ambulance to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary where he remains in a critical condition.
Detective Inspector David Howieson said: “Police enquiries have been ongoing throughout the night to establish the full circumstances, however, the incident does not appear to be suspicious.
“I would like to thank the local community for their patience whilst we have dealt with the incident.”
Cooper was a member of the Dons side that won the European Cup Winners’ Cup and Super Cup in 1983 and also lifted two Premier Division titles, four Scottish Cups and the League Cup while at Pittodrie.
Brought through the ranks by Sir Alex Ferguson, he later went on to represent Rangers, Dunfermline, Ross County, Aston Villa and Reading.
He moved into management after retiring, returning to the Staggies before two spells at Hartlepool as well as Gillingham and Peterhead.
