THOUSANDS of teenagers who headed to Troon to party on the beach were left with no way home after trains to Glasgow were cancelled.

A signalling fault saw services reduced, leaving hundreds queueing for packed trains.

Disruption was expected to last until after 8pm.

Police were on hand to control the situation and stop carriages becoming too busy with standing passengers.

Officers had a heavy presence at the beach all day as youngsters in high spirits played loud music on the sand.

A 15-year-old was arrested after an incident in the beach area.

Red Cross staff were also on standby to help teenagers who were believed to be drinking.

It came after a teenager was taken to hospital when a large fight broke out on Troon Beach at the weekend.

Massive crowds have been flocking to Ayrshire since Friday as much of Scotland continues to enjoy warm weather.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman told the Evening Times police were alerted to a report of a disturbance involving a large group of youths on the beach at around 3.10pm on Sunday.

She added: “Officers attended and a 16-year-old boy was taken to Crosshouse Hospital for treatment to a leg injury.

“Inquiries are

ongoing.”

Reports on social media have claimed that police have been taking alcohol off young people on jam-packed trains leaving from Glasgow.

On Twitter user wrote: “Police on the train from Glasgow to Troon searching all the kids bags and taking the booze off

them.”

The Evening Times previously reported how Glasgow Central Station has enforced a strict booze ban to prevent another Troon Beach incident like last year as extra police on horses are deployed to the area.
