REAL Madrid have sent a letter of condolence to Aberdeen after hearing of Neale Cooper's tragic death.

The La Liga giants, who won a third consecutive Champions League title last weekend, showed solidarity with the Ladbrokes Premiership club as they mourned a Dons great.

Cooper passed away aged 54 on Monday following a fall in a block of flats in the Bucksburn area of Aberdeen.

He was a member of the Gothenburg Greats, the last team to defeat Los Blancos in a European final when they triumphed in the Cup Winners' Cup final of 1983. 

In a letter addressed to Dons chairman Stewart Milne from Madrid great Emilio Butragueno, the Spanish club wrote: "We are deeply shocked and saddened after hearing the news that Neale Cooper passed away yesterday.

"We are all very affected by this tragic loss and we want to be with you in these difficult moments.

"On behalf of our president, Florentino Perez, and all of us at Real Madrid F.C. please send our deepest condolences to Neale Cooper's family and friends. He will be in our prayers and thoughts."
