IT WAS love at first height for one Duntocher couple – as they got married at the top of the Titan Crane.

Kate and Barry Elliot shared their vows in the most unlikely of places during an intimate ceremony on March 31.

It’s the first time anyone has ever had their wedding at the top of the 150 ft high crane, and Kate told the Post it was all her husband’s idea.

“He’s really shy and didn’t want a big wedding,” Kate said. “His mum lives in Whitecrook and we were driving along the road from hers and he was like ‘do you think you can get married up there?’

“He doesn’t do anything normal, he’s unpredictable. He wanted an intimate wedding.”

The couple, both 35, were friends at St Andrew’s High School before getting together at the age of 23.

Kate admitted she was nervous about the prospect of ascending the light blue structure but was keen to do something out of the ordinary and memorable for their special day.

She continued: “The more I thought about it, it was a good idea because it was different. I thought ‘when I’m an old lady, I can say I got married up the top of a crane’.

“It was really tight-knit, just parents, siblings, nieces and nephews and a couple of friends. Even my wee gran went up and she’s 86 years old with a pacemaker.”

The ceremony was 15-minutes long, before they went outside for their pictures to be taken.

However, the paperwork had to be completed at the bottom because the minister had a fear of heights.

“I know him because I was a district nurse and he was kidding on, saying, ‘can you get me some Valium?’

“Everybody thought we were nuts. I don’t think there was on person who wasn’t nervous.”

Due to the metal grating of the flooring, women were banned from wearing high heels, which – Katie said – caused an interesting reaction.

She added: “All of the girls were freaking out, because they weren’t allowed to wear high heels. I made them all wear trainers.”

The reception was held at Clydebank Town Hall and Kate – who runs local business Secret Smile Aesthetics – revealed the couple never thought about having their wedding outside of the town.

She said: “We didn’t want to go anywhere else. We both went to school together in Clydebank and all of our family is in Clydebank, so we didn’t want to go anywhere else.”
