A POLICE officer is in a serious condition after being stabbed in the neck in a major incident in Greenock.
Another also sustained injuries to the arm in the town’s Gateside Gardens.
Police Scotland said officers were called to the scene at around 8.45am on Friday morning.

The cops were taken to the Inverclyde Royal Hospital for treatment after being injured in what is believed to have been a call-out.
The Scottish Ambulance Service said it sent two ambulances to the scene.
The incident was not terror related, the force confirmed.
The families of the two police officers had been quickly notified after the incident.
A man is in police custody and was also taken to hospital.
Eyewitnesses close to the scene took to social media to describe what happened.
One wrote: “16 police cars and 3 riot vans just flew between port and Greenock what on earth is happening?”
Police Scotland can confirm the incident in Gateside Gardens, Greenock this morning, where two officers were injured, is not terror related. We will provide further information when we have the relevant update.

Another added: “What the hell is happening in Greenock? 12 police cars just passed work.”
Inverclyde Council advised locals to stay away from the area, and said on social media: “Please be aware of an incident today in Greenock. Support Police Scotland with their enquiries and be aware of potential disruption while necessary investigations take place in the local area.”

Andrea MacDonald, chair of the Scottish Police Federation said: “Our thoughts are with the injured officers and their families.
“Once again, we see how difficult and dangerous a job it is.
“Police officers put themselves between other professionals and the public and dangerous individuals, sometimes with life-changing consequences, for themselves and their families.

Other figures in the force were quick to speak out about their horror at what happened.

Stand-in police chief DCC Iain Livingstone added on Twitter: “Incredible bravery from police officers in Greenock this morning. All of Police Scotland officers and staff are thinking of them and their families. Courage, protecting their fellow citizens, public service.”
Police said an investigation was under way and officers remain at the scene.
