THE former site of the Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice could become Glasgow's next holiday destination.

Plans have been brought forward to convert the hospice at Portland Place into holiday let accommodation.

The redevelopment would begin after the charity relocate to their new custom-built premises at Bellahouston Park.

The work will involve the conservation of the B-listed terrace and the demolition of extensions to the rear of the property.

Developers will add a four-storey ‘contemporary’ extension behind a sandstone facade and contrasting brickwork.

The ground floor of the building will be raised to enhance privacy for guests and a cafe/ bar will be created in a newly created courtyard.

Strathedin Properties have submitted plans for the site on 67 - 73 Carlton Place to Glasgow City Council.

Documents submitted in relation to the development reads: “Proposal involves the conversion of existing residential Hospice building to residential use for holiday letting and includes the demolition of more recent purpose built facilities at the rear of the site.

“A sensitive refurbishment with minimal internal structural disruption and a new four storey build extension front South Portland Street.”

The site, which has been home to the hospice for 30 years, was put on the market back in April 2017.

As previously reported by the Evening Times, the team at the Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice have reached the £21 million target needed for the new facility.

The new hospice in Bellahouston Park will provide 16 single rooms for in-patients, with dedicated access to their own outdoor store.

It will also provide care for young people aged 16 and over and out-patient services will be greatly expanded, with a dedicated area for young people and more facilities for patients.
