A BRAND new outdoor fitness bootcamp will kick off in Giffnock on Saturday with a free taster session.

The hour-long high intensity interval training (HIIT) sessions will put participants through their paces and caters for all levels, from fitness fanatics to bootcamp beginners.

East Renfrewshire Culture and Leisure will run the class in the grounds outside Eastwood Park Leisure Centre.

Gym instructor and bootcamp champion Damien Cameron, who spent 16 years working as a road worker for Glasgow City Council before seeking out a more fulfilling fitness career, said: “Summer in Glasgow is in full swing and we’re hoping for some good weather for our Saturday morning workouts, which will help people get fit during the holidays and beyond.

“High intensity interval training is a great way to get in shape, burn calories and have some fun in the fresh air. You work out intensely for short bursts, followed by recovery periods so you can catch your breath before moving on to the next challenge. In an hour, you get your cardio workout as well as toning muscles and strength training."

Damien, 35, from Erskine, decided to switch to a career where he could help people achieve their goals and is looking forward to getting the bootcamp started in East Renfrewshire and seeing real results for its residents.

“I wasn’t happy in my current job and didn’t want to do it for another 15 years so I decided to train as a gym instructor.

“It is really rewarding to see how much people can progress in short spaces of time and how good it makes them feel.

“You don’t get thanks for digging the roads but I’ve had lots of people thanking me for helping them achieve their fitness goals, especially through bootcamp sessions.”

The new HIIT bootcamp classes will run every Saturday at 9.30am, starting June 9 and East Renfrewshire Culture and Leisure gym members will get all HIIT outdoor bootcamp sessions included in their membership. They are currently offering a promotional offer on their gym and fitness membership, with one month free, no joining fee and a free Health MOT for new members.
