I am hopeful that there will be a marquee signing at Rangers this summer, a real statement of intent.

The manager has given the full club and the fans a lift just by coming in, as has Gary McAllister, so I think on the pitch he will be looking to flex his muscles a wee bit and get a real quality signing over the line, and that all comes down to what money he has made available to him.

There must be quite a few Rangers players looking over their shoulders at the moment, and particularly among the midfielders.

Another one looks set to arrive at the club in the shape of Ovie Ejaria from Liverpool, but if some players are moved on to make way for him and the likes of Scott Arfield then they can have no complaints.

When you’ve been at Rangers for two years and you haven’t won a piece of silverware, from a player’s point of view, you have to be thinking that your coat is on a shaky nail.

I would imagine that Steven Gerrard will want to revamp the squad, and hopefully Ejaria can come in and make his mark.

I don’t think you can judge the lad on what happened at Sunderland last season, because it was a hard place to play football with everything that was going on at the club. They were fighting relegation and scrapping for their lives, so it would be unfair to judge him being pitched into that side.

He seems to have a pretty good CV overall, and hopefully he can come in and hit the ground running.
