A MAJOR Bishopbriggs road is due to reopen tonight - two years after it closed for repairs.
Phase four of the relief road began in June 2016 with work expected to take around eight months.
In a tweet East Dunbartonshire Council confirmed the road will reopen tonight but will not be for use throughout the day due to final surfacing works.
The route, which links Westerhill Road and the main Kirkintilloch Road, was due to undergo a series of changes with the creation of a "two-lane 50mph road - stretching 600 metres between Wester Cleddens Roundabout and a new roundabout, with another 100 metres of road on the north side of the railway, a new bridge over the main Edinburgh-Glasgow railway line, dedicated walking/cycling route and bridge, a new access road into Cadder Yard and two Sustainable Urban Drainage ponds".
Please note, Bishopbriggs Relief Road Phase 4 is still scheduled to open tomorrow (Tuesday 12 June), but contractor Morrison Construction has advised it is likely to be in the evening due to timings of final surfacing works pic.twitter.com/hhKxs1SE23

However, East Dunbartonshire Council said the work was hit with a number of delays "due to the site's location next to the rail line and the ongoing Edinburgh Glasgow Improvement Programme, as well as issues related to diverting utilities".
It is understood the road will reopen this evening with the existing stretch of Westerhill Road and the bridge being transformed into an "active travel corridor" for pedestrians and cyclists, known as Wester Way.
