Former Celtic star John Hartson has donated £20,000 to Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity’s Schiehallion Appeal.
The Evening Times columnist was moved to give to the Schiehallion Appeal following his own cancer battle, and visited Glasgow Children’s Hospital to hand over the generous donation.
The money was raised at the John Hartson Foundation’s annual golf day, held at Trump Turnberry earlier this year.
Kirsten Sinclair, director of fundraising at Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity said: “John has been a fantastic supporter of Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity, and we are incredibly grateful for this generous donation.

"Our Schiehallion Appeal has now raised more than £1 million for children in Scotland with cancer and blood disorders, which is testament to the wonderful generosity of the Scottish public and will make such a difference to the lives of these young patients and their families.”
John added: “My Foundation has had a long association with this Charity. The staff and volunteers do such great work for the children and the parents through such testing and worrying times.
“To be able to help in this way is very satisfying and extremely humbling. I thank everyone who attended my Golf Day and for putting their hands in their pockets, time after time.
“For Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity to raise more than £1m is an incredible amount and, once again, highlights the fantastic generosity of the people of Scotland.”
More than two thirds of children with cancer in Scotland will be treated at the children’s hospital in Glasgow.
Funds raised for the Schiehallion Appeal will bring more of the latest cancer treatments and early phase clinical trials to Scotland by enabling the expansion of the Schiehallion clinical trials centre.
