GLASGOW Taxis is preparing for its annual chauffeuring trip to the seaside.

The Glasgow Taxi Outing Fund will give more than 300 school children who require additional support for learning a day to remember with its famous Troon trips.

The 73rd annual event will kick off with a Police Scotland pipe band performance around 10.15am on Kelvin Way on Wednesday, July 20.

Stephen Flynn, Glasgow Taxis Ltd. Chairman, Jim Buchanan, Glasgow Taxis Outing Fund Chairman and Bailie Josephine Docherty will be on hand alongside more than 100 generous city taxi drivers who will give up a day for free to drive the children and their carers or parents to a day of sea, sand and, hopefully, sun on the Ayrshire coast.

The famous event is attended by hundreds of well-wishers at the traditional starting point on Kelvin Way, before the taxis embark on their colourful expedition through Glasgow’s city centre and southside then on to Ayrshire.

Supporters include main backers Glasgow Taxis Ltd as well as Stewart Milne Homes and Celtic FC Foundation.

Most of the drivers decorate their taxis and don fancy dress costumes, much to the delight of the children and people who line the route through Glasgow and in Troon itself.

a fleet of 13 police motorcycles will help the taxis make their way to the Troon coast for 12.30pm.
