THE team heading up the investigation into the cause of the blaze that devastated Glasgow School Art for a second time have a "complex task ahead of them", according to fire chiefs.

David McGown, Assistant Chief Fire Officer, of the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, said the inquiry would cover a, "vast array" of information including looking at which fire safety measures were in place or, "supposed to be in place."

Experts have said restoring the fire-ravaged Mackintosh building to its previous architectural glories could run into hundreds of millions of pounds and take years of painstaking work.

Mr McGown said: "Our investigators will cover a vast array of information.

"They have a complex task ahead of them and of course will look at situations and issues such as  which fire safety systems were in place beforehand, what was supposed to be in place, witness statements, CCTV footage and working with our our partners will collate that information  for what will be the one truly informed source of what actually happened in this fire."
