A popular South Side steakhouse has announced its shock closure after less than a year of trading.

Hickory Steakhouse in Shawlands posted a brief message on Facebook to inform customers of the bad news.

The owners, who opened their doors in August 2017, said business has been "more difficult than anticipated".

In a statement released on Monday, bosses said it was with a 'heavy heart' that the decision had been made.

Writing on Facebook, they said: "Unfortunately Hickory has now closed. Trading has been more difficult than anticipated and we have taken this decision with heavy hearts.

"Thanks to all our customers and friends for their support over the past year."

The news was met with sadness from locals who said they were "absolutely gutted".

Birdy Young wrote: "You guys did an amazing job, so don’t for a second think otherwise. It’s been a tough year all around with this economy.

"I hate how the s**** hand always gets dealt to the most deserving people, ‘cause your restaurant had the best staff and atmosphere in Shawlands IMO. Hickory will be sorely missed."

Paul Docherty added: "I'm lost for words, it was our favourite restaurant, all the best in what you do next."

Jackie Greenaway commented: "This is so so sad it was a great place for eating cant believe we have lost yet another restaurant in Shawlands."
