A group of former refugees who built new lives in Scotland after fleeing a war zone have put up a permanent tribute to the Lanarkshire villagers who welcomed them into the heart of their community.

Known internationally as the Vietnamese Boat People, some were initially accommodated at the former Kersewell College in Carnwath. They joined South Lanarkshore Provost Ian McAllan today (Wednesday) to erect a plaque at Carnwath Golf Club.

Trung Le said: “As a group we have never forgotten the warmth of welcome we were given here.”
