A CARE home worker has been struck off after she rammed a piece of food into an OAP's mouth after picking it off the floor.

Mary Nicholson assaulted the 81-year-old man at Craigend Gardens Care Home in Ruchazie.

The care support worker was convicted of assault at Glasgow Sheriff Court and has now been stripped of her registration from the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC).

An inquiry by care watchdogs found she continued to deny the incident even after she had been convicted.

The assault happened on February, 14, 2016 and involved a resident who was under the care of Police Scotland.

The care worker picked up a piece of food from the ground and pushed it into the man's mouth, "against his will."

An investigation found the employee had shown no insight into her behaviour,

A panel of the SSSC said: "Your violent behaviour, entailing the risk of physical and emotional harm to a vulnerable resident, resulting in a criminal conviction for

assault, would be considered deplorable by fellow support workers and the public.

"The Panel determined that your conviction also brought your profession into disrepute."
