PROTESTORS gathered in Victoria Park yesterday to urge council bosses to scrap a cost-cutting plan that will grass over historic flower beds.
Residents want a halt to a scheme by Glasgow City Council to axe 28 historic floral displays because of the cost of upkeep.
The beds date back 130 years and the Friends of Victoria Park has claimed grassing over the beds - out of 60 in total - would be a “an act of civic vandalism”.
They worry that if the first tranche of beds are allowed to be grassed over, it won't be long before the rest are lost.
Yesterday afternoon's "flower power" demonstration aimed to show the council the depth of feeling by local people.
One idea mooted by residents is funds from hiring out the park to festival FriendsFest are used to maintain the beds.
