THE shocking scale of the Sauchiehall Street demolition has been laid bare as a block has now completely vanished.

The block previously held Greggs, Specsavers, Victoria’s Nightclub, Holland & Barrett, City Palace restaurant, The Works and Greaves Sports.

The section of the street was devastated in March after a fire which started in Victoria’s.

Images show the one hugely-popular club’s two white columns at the former entrance the only recognisable part left.

It has been closed since as experts continue to taken down the businesses brick by brick in an attempt to salvage what is left of the area.

Sauchiehall Street has been left blighted after two major fires this year.

On June 15, the Glasgow School of Art was hit by a second major blaze in just four years which has seens dozens of businesses affected on the north end of Sauchiehall Street.

As previously reported by the Evening Times, traders blasted the council for not doing enough for shops and restaurants on the streets and have now moved to form a “task force” with the aim to bring the once-thriving street back to life.

Owners have also been forced to let their staff go following the devastating Art School fire.

Speaking a week after the blaze, one owner, who asked not to be named, said the outcome has been “gut wrenching”

He told the Evening Times: “I’ve basically had to call it a day.”
