THE brother of murdered businessman Alexander Blue has told how the “family has lost faith in the police” after a 16-year investigation failed to bring the killer to justice.

Speaking on the anniversary of the death, Billy Blue, 60, believes that Police Scotland has enough evidence to give to the Crown Office to put someone behind bars for the unsolved murder.

But the force have failed to do and Billy is adamant he will not give up on seeking justice.

He said: "We have always had a good relationship in the past with the police. But we have no contact now with the police and frankly don’t want any.

"I was positive before because I have seen the strength of evidence that they have and it is not the sort of thing that you just walk away from.

"To say they are looking for opportunities for evidence is absolutely astonishing. You have no idea what evidence they are sitting with."

He added: "I won't give up but I have no faith in the police, it is a waste of time."

Dundonald Road, Dowanhill

Alexander was just 41-years-old was when he was battered to death outside his West End home on June 24, 2002.

He was beaten, stabbed and left for dead in the drive of his home in Dundonald Road, Dowanhill.

Neighbours, who heard a commotion, raised the alarm and the businessman was found in a pool of blood outside the property at 12.20am on June 25.

He, however, died two days later from horrific head and facial injuries at the now defunct Southern General Hospital.

Just hours before his death, Alexander was last seen sipping a cappuccino alone at the Beanscene Cafe in Cresswell Lane, a favourite haunt of his, between 7pm and 8pm.

But where he went, or who he was with, in the time between then and his murder remains a mystery more than a decade on.

Billy and his mother Kathy

Today on the anniversary, Billy explained the murder has been tough for his 85-year-old mother Kathy to deal with.

He said: "She is devastated. There are some cases out there where there is no evidence and that is horrible. But we are not in that position. That is the biggest frustration for my mother."

He added: "I am aware of who ordered Alex's murder and I have told the police that.

"Nobody should be killed and the stops aren’t all pulled out, no matter who that is. If someone kills, it is a very serious thing and they should pay for that."

Police Scotland said they are still "fully committed" to finding Alexander's killer.

A force spokeswoman said: "Officers from Police Scotland remain fully committed to identifying whoever is responsible for the murder of Alexander Blue. We work closely with the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service and meet regularly to review outstanding unresolved murders. Working collaboratively as the Scottish Homicide Governance Group, the potential for new investigative opportunities are regularly assessed to maximise the ability to deliver justice for grieving families."

The family, however, admitted that they were disappointed with Police Scotland's statement regarding the case.

Billy added: "We are looking for action not the same old face-saving platitudes."

Police Scotland would appeal to anyone who has information regarding the death of Alexander Blue, to contact them via the 101 number.

Information can also be provided through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, where anonymity can be maintained.
