RANGERS footballing legend Harold Davis has died aged 85.

A member of the Ibrox Hall of Fame, Harold was signed from East Fife by Scot Symon.

The club said the right-half was an "outstanding defender", playing alongside the likes of Bobby Shearer and John Greig from 1956 until 1964.

Harold overcame horrific war injuries to be able to play his favourite game.

While serving for the King’s Own Scottish Borderers in the Korean War, he came under heavy machine gun fire and spent almost two years in hospital recovering.

In a statement posted on the club's website, the team said: "That he was even able to lead anything resembling a normal life following that was remarkable, but to go on and have the footballing career he did was truly extraordinary, and speaks volumes for the sort of man Davis was."

They added: "Everyone at Rangers passes on their sincere condolences to Harold’s family at this difficult time."

The Fife native went on to play for Partick Thistle before returning as coach under David White in the late 60s.

He went on to manage Queen of the South and be assistant manager at Dundee.
