A TRIAL against a young woman accused of beating up her mum fell apart after the alleged victim failed to remember what happened.

Nina Renton, 43, told Glasgow Sheriff Court this week: "I don't really remember what happened, no. I was drinking."

Lorissa Girwood, 21, had been accused of attacking her mother at home in January 2016. She denied seizing her by the hair, punching her on the head and pushing her on the body.

Ms Renton was the Crown's lead witness, but told the fiscal depute that her lack of memory was down to mixing alcohol and medication on the day of the incident.

She added: "We had an argument over the cat. That was it."

With no testimony, the Crown dropped the charges against the accused.

Girwood, of Glasgow Road in Cambuslang, was thereafter admonished by Sheriff Norman Ritchie for failing to appear at court without a reasonable excuse on October 23, 2017.
