TWO people are being treated for smoke inhalation after a fire broke out at a block of flats in Glasgow's East End.

Emergency services raced to the scene at Tollcross Park View to find the building well a light.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service were alerted at 6.36pm on Friday June 29 following reports of a fire within the roof space of a four-storey building in Glasgow.

"Operations Control mobilised a number of resources to the scene at Tollcross Park View.

"Two casualties suffering from smoke inhalation have been passed into the care of Scottish Ambulance Service personnel."

The site of the fire is near the McVities factory on Tollcross Road. 

Residents of the flat block and some nearby buildings were evacuted as a precaution. 

Eyewitnesses reported seeing smoke rising high over the building and surrounding area. 

Jocelyn Wallace told the Evening Times: "(The fire) started in a top floor flat.

"Residents were told to get out by people in the McVities factory."

A team of 12 fire engines and six further appliances tackled the fire.
