I have to say that my heart went out to Croatia on Sunday evening.

The decision for the penalty that France got was a piece of nonsense. It was never a penalty in its life and it makes a mockery of VRU that a referee can look at that and still give the decision.

So I really felt for them because I thought they put so much into it and they played some really good football.

But overall France were probably the strongest team at the tournament. Once the big guns had all gone out I did feel that they would go on and win it and even without that stupid call for the penalty I thought they just edged the final.

They just have so many quality players all over the pitch. Paul Pogba should have silenced a few of his critics because I thought he had a brilliant tournament while the likes of Kylian Mbappe is just such an exciting prospect.

But here is the thing. That France side has quality all through it - but Celtic's own French connection of Odsonne Edouard, Moussa Dembele and Olivier Ntcham are good enough to get in there over time. That has to be their aim.
