TWO young gymnasts from Glasgow have become the first Scots girls to be selected to represent the UK at a major championship event.

Maryhill based, Sapphire Gymnastics Club is celebrating after two of their tumblers were selected to compete for Team GB at the Loule Cup in Portugal in October.

Demi Adams, 15 and Darci Tierney, 11, from Maryhill, will be the first, ever Scottish girls to compete as part of the British team.

They secured a place in the international trampolining and tumbling competition, which is taking place from October 4-6 October in the Portugese city of Faro.

The news comes hot on the heels of a succession of medal wins at recent British competitions, resulting in four of the club’s gymnasts being crowned British champions, after winning gold.

Jasmine Lessani, head coach at Sapphire said: “We are immensely proud of our gymnasts.

“ Being chosen to represent Great Britain is a huge achievement.

“The girls work extremely hard at every training session and are improving every day, so it came as no surprise to us that they are being included in this elite team.”

Demi Adams is also the only gymnast in Scotland to medal Silver at the Elite FIG Spring Series which was held in April and June and is now going for gold at the British Finals in Birmingham 21-23 September.
