MORE than 2,000 people across the city have taken up Glasgow Sport’s free family swimming offer in the first two weeks of the summer holiday campaign.

The offer, launched on July 2, sees six sessions take place across the city every day during the school holidays, which families and children can attend for free.

In the first fortnight, the top three sites were Easterhouse, Gorbals, and Maryhill – each seeing around 300 swims each – and 56 per cent of the free swim uptake has come from the city's most deprived areas.

Councillor David McDonald, Depute Leader of Glasgow City Council and chairman of Glasgow Life, said: “We’re absolutely delighted with the initial uptake on the free family swimming offer - and it only continues to grow day by day as more and more families make the most of the opportunity to get physically active and have fun for free.

“Our targeted approach to free swimming is working exactly how we’d hoped and providing opportunities for those who need it most.

“With another four weeks to go in the campaign, it’s encouraging to see such a fantastic uptake so early on.”

Each of Glasgow Club’s 11 pools in the city is offering one weekday, weekend, and evening session every week.

The offer is open to all families until Tuesday, August 14, and there are no proof of eligibility checks.
